Developing skills in arranging for classical orchestra and chamber music settings, with a focus on music before 1900.

This module is related to the main subject modules.

This module comprises knowledge of instruments and scores / parts and the history of the classical orchestra as well as classical harmony.
As a first step we will analyse orchestra and chamber music works by composers from baroque period(e.g. Handel / Bach), classical period (e.g. Mozart / Beethoven), romantic period (e.g. Schubert / Schumann) and late 19th century (e.g. Ravel / Debussy / Bruckner).
In a second step we will arrange piano works of these composers for different orchestra settings according to their style.

Group lessons that, depending on the composition of the group, take place entirely on-campus, entirely online or in a combination of both, i.e., that there are attendees both physically in the classroom and virtually via a screen. Online attendees communicate by seeing, talking and listening to each other and the on-campus attendees equally. The teacher has access to a whiteboard, application sharing, desktop sharing and document sharing and can hand this privilege to any other participants.
Apart from the video conference a high quality stereo audio stream is open at the same time via source connect. That way students and instructor can listen to music from any source of the group and talk about it simultaneously.
All online lessons are recorded and though available for students later on.

Assessment by the instructor at the end of each semester.

Students should have mastered the elements described under Contents.

The student has completed this module if being awarded a minimum grade of 5.5 at the end of the second semester.

Students are assessed at the end of both semesters. Assessment at the end of the autumn semester is formative and expressed in terms of satisfactory/unsatisfactory. It indicates a student's progress in this module. No ECs are awarded and there is no resit.
Modules can only be absolved, and ECs awarded, after the end of the spring semester.
The end-of-semester assessments comprise evaluations of students' performance during the lessons and assignments.
Tests conducted online are valid only if it is done without interruption. The assessor will decide whether or not the test was valid.
