Aims

Have you ever found yourself humming along to catchy jingles or getting captivated by the soundtrack of a compelling commercial? If so, then our "Composing for Commercials" elective is tailor-made for you! In this dynamic and hands-on course, you'll dive headfirst into the exciting realm where music and advertising intersect. Led by an industry professional with years of experience in both music production and marketing, you'll learn the ins and outs of creating music specifically designed to enhance and elevate brand messaging.

Content
1. Understanding Brand Identity: Explore how music contributes to brand identity and the psychology behind the emotional connection it creates with consumers.
2. Crafting Catchy Jingles: Learn the art of composing memorable and impactful jingles that stick in the minds of your audience long after they've heard them.
3. Scoring for Commercials: Master the techniques of scoring music to visuals, ensuring that your compositions perfectly complement the tone and message of the advertisement.
4. Effective Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow students on real-world projects, mirroring the collaborative nature of the music production industry.
5. Industry Insights: Gain valuable insights into the commercial music industry, including licensing, royalties, and the role of music producers in advertising agencies.
6. Hands-On Experience: Get hands-on experience using industry- standard software and tools to produce professional-quality music tracks.
7. Portfolio Building: Develop a portfolio showcasing your original compositions and projects, ready to impress potential clients or employers.
Mode(s) of instruction
Group classes. Mainly offline (live), with exceptions made as necessary for official online students.
Material & Tools
The participants need to own:
- PC or Mac
- A DAW of choice (Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic, etc.).
Student activity
In this module students will
- create jingles for a logo
- compose and produce two commercials
- learn how to time music to the packet shot
- create a small portfolio for Agency's.

Assessment at the end of the module.
Criteria
Students should have mastered the elements described under Content.
Pass requirements
The student has completed this module if they are awarded a minimum grade of 5.5 at the end of the module.
Examination procedure
Evaluated regarding the overall involvement of the student and the small assignments throughout the whole course.
