The student may choose the content of the free space, if related to the learning objectives as set out in the study plan. Criteria that must be met are: uniqueness, creativity, entrepreneurship, and/or showing initiative. a small individual budget is allocated each year to be used for classes and or education-related activities.
Relation to other modules
The content of the Free Space links in with all other parts of the curriculum. The student makes choices and takes initiatives that are based on their study plan, which they write in Connecting the Dots.
Content
Students set their own learning objectives in consultation with the mentor. Criteria that must be met relate to Creative ability, Communication skills, and Organisational skills (see Competence Matrix Master of Music).
The student may pick the content of the Free Space independently, if related to the learning objectives as set out in the study plan. Examples include: participation in Bachelor courses (such as project weeks, chamber music), more involvement in the Residence Project (see Performance Lab), internships in the work field with professional ensembles, participation in a renowned masterclass, recording a demo, etc.

Examination and assessment

Summative (June):
Granting of 2EC after the first or second term
In case assessment is not defined: Written evaluation of productions, incl reflection report with documentation material.
Criteria
Consult the Assessment form Free Space.
Pass requirements
The evaluators' ratings are equally weighted in the assessments, which are expressed as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory. A satisfactory results in a pass.
Examination procedure
Summative: instructor involved (in case assessment is not defined: the student's mentor) gives an assessments in writing, which will be put in the student's portfolio.
Resit options
Additional assignment related to deficiencies.
