Aims
The student sets out the personal learning objectives in accordance with the skills and general objectives mentioned in Competence Matrix Master of Music.
Specific aims:
Becoming proficient in connecting repertoire to current performance practice;
Stage skills in authentic situations;
Using the repertoire to tell a personal story;
Learning to work from a self-developed concept;
Learning to market one’s own product;
Collaboration with other musicians and professionals from various (art) disciplines;
Various theatre performances and concerts are introduced, visited, and evaluated.
Relation to other modules
Performance Lab is a mandatory subject. The technical skills, gained by the student on their individual route, feed the artistic level in the performance lab.
Through the knowledge the student receives in Connecting the Dots, they become aware of the place of music within society. In the Performance lab, the student delves into the social role of music and musicians.
In this programme, students can use their presentation, communication, and contextualising skills on their repertoire in the Individual Route.
Content
This programme enables the student to become proficient in connecting their repertoire to their current performance practice.

They work on stage skills in authentic situations, using their repertoire to tell a personal story, learning how to work with a self-developed concept, and the marketing possibilities of their product. Collaborating with other musicians and professionals from other (art) disciplines is a crucial aspect. Presentations are mostly held in venues outside the school.

Various concerts and theatre performances will be introduced, visited, and evaluated.

All learning objectives are supervised.

A reflection day at the end of each semester completes the performance lab.

A professional ensemble is invited for the Residency Project within the Performance Lab. Students work with this ensemble and carry out assignments with/for them. These may be organisational, artistical and/or performative in nature, determined by agreements between the students and the residency ensemble.

Studying theory, writing papers and evaluations, self-analysis, finding background information and studying MOOCs, preparation, making music, rehearsing, concept development, perform, theatre visits, reflecting.

Examination and assessment

Mode(s) of assessment
Summative:
By the end of the third and fourth semester (granting 7 EC after both the first and second semester):
a) Portfolio containing: completed assignments, preparation and performance of concerts, evaluation, reflection and justification, accompanied by digital documentation.
b) artistic reflection
1. descriptions of the difficulties that the student encountered
2. justification: explanation for the difficulties and choices,
3. critique: explanation and evaluation of the difficulties and choices
4. critical review of different solutions and/or alternative methods
5. transfer: how the next action becomes different or better than the previous action.

Assessment by the teachers involved in the applicable semester.
Input of external assessor counts towards the assessment.
Criteria
The MaMu CM JPA JPZ Performance Lab, assessment form Year 2 is used to assess. Furthermore, the student must be present 80% of the time. If a meeting is missed, the supervisor will arrange a replacement activity, that matches what was done in the group meeting.
Pass requirements
The evaluators' ratings are equally weighted in the final assessment, which is expressed as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory. A satisfactory results in a pass.
Examination procedure
Assessors: teachers involved.
The portfolio (with evaluation and justification, accompanied by digital documentation, including a reflection report) will be marked satisfactory or unsatisfactory.
Resit options
Additional or alternative assignment(s) for the assessment categories that are inadequate.
