Prerequisites
The student has completed Preparatory Course Traineeship. This subject can only be followed on-campus.

Aims
Developing skills that help the students improve their didactic abilities as teachers. Additionally, they are able to look beyond their personal specialization and complete cross- over assignments convincingly (content number 1 and 3).

This module is related the compulsory education module Methodology.
Content
For this module there are two possibilities:

1. A traineeship during the interdisciplinary days of the preparatory course (two days in March). Prior to starting the traineeship, the student attends three study meetings where content, set-up and purpose are explained. After the traineeship, there is an evaluation lesson. The student writes a structured lesson plan in concordance with the coördinator and the professional coaches. During March the student takes this lesson plan into practice.

2. A traineeship as band coach of the internal preparatory course: 1 hour lesson a week for 5 successive lessons. Prior to starting the traineeship, the student attends three study meetings where the band,set-up and purpose of the lessons are explained. After the traineeship, there is an evaluation lesson. The student writes a structured lesson plan for the 5 lessons in concordance with the coördinator and the professional coach. In consultancy with the coördinator and professional coach the five lessons are planned on a suitable moment.

Criteria
Successful completion of all practical assignments.
The student has prepared their lessons in an adequate and timely fashion and has demonstrated their sense of responsibility.
The student has displayed a constructive attitude during the coaching sessions, has taken advice to heart and have shown themselves open to criticism.
The student has demonstrated a capacity for self-criticism.

Active participation is an important criterion.
Pass requirements
The student has successfully completed the module with a sufficient for the in-class exercise, preparation of the internship and the internship itself.
Examination procedure
The teacher judges the in-class exercise and internship
The result can be: sufficient or not sufficient.

Module summary

Students develop a practical approach to developing their didactic abilities while teaching at an advanced level.
This module is intended to teach students how to work with and instruct groups. Students will learn to work with group dynamics, and will be introduced to several approaches that help them frame their lessons to focus on the lessons aims. Using ensemble playing education as a case in point, specific lesson elements will be addressed, e.g., lesson aims, writing arrangements, mixing instruments from the classical and jazz & pop domain, ensemble playing, band leading and case studies.
