Content
This module focuses on using electronics—Effects, Samplers, and Synthesizers—in a live performance context, with Ableton Live as the primary platform for performance. After an introductory lesson exploring different approaches to performing with electronics, students will alternate between brief theory sessions and hands-on assignments and practice in small groups.

The emphasis is on learning practical skills for performing live, including operating Ableton Live, applying Effects, and using Samplers and Synthesizers to support musical ideas. Students will also learn how to prepare and organize a live set for different performance situations, and learn about some different software that you can use to enhance your live performance like ClyphX and TouchOSC.

Throughout the year, students will work towards a live performance, which can range from playing covers with interactive backing tracks in a band setting, to live-sampling acoustic instruments for evolving soundscapes, to fully electronic improvisations using MIDI controllers.
