Content
The J.B.'s basically are the vehicle of trombonist Fred Wesley. Throughout the years the band had different shapes and names, starting out as James Brown's band between 1970-1985. It also was a self-contained group, and still is until today as "Fred Wesley & The New J.B.'s". In 1975, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and Bootsy Collins joined George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic and later would continue to form their own bands.
While Maceo Parker might have been the most famous J.B. musician, Fred Wesley was the bandleader, arranger and sideman, and as such one of the most influential horn players in Soul, Funk, Rhythm& Blues and Disco.
Like most of James Brown's music, the recorded output of "The J.B.'s" has been heavily mined for samples by pop, hip hop and dance producers until today.
Let's work on tracks like "Pass the peas", "Gimme some more" and "Doing it to death"!
