Prerequisites
The student has completed Education and is a Jazz & Pop student. This subject can only be followed on-campus.

Aims
The student is able to guide/coach a group of their choice towards results, having learned to recognize group dynamics and use them while teaching.
They are in full command of the material and able to guide their pupils effectively.
The students learn to:
Get an overview regarding the practical and artistic organisation of a band.
Make a band sounds homogeneous.
Relation to other modules
This module is related to Education and Methodology. It serves to expand the students’ knowledge and practical experience of professional education. It also facilitates deeper exploration of the profession during a traineeship.
Content
Students put together a band with junior students, students from the preparatory course or amateurs.
Communication skills, group leadership skills, organisational skills, musical vision, working with projects.
Practical lessons based on the topics listed under Aims, as well as various assignments based on the materials discussed.
At the end of the module there is a performance of all participating bands.

Examination and assessment

Mode(s) of assessment
Students are evaluated by the teacher/traineeship supervisor based on both the last presentation and their (A4) report.
Criteria
The report and presentation should demonstrate the student's ability to reflect on their own learning aims. Active participation is an important criterion.
Pass requirements
A minimum grade of 5.5 constitutes a pass.
Examination procedure
Reports are assessed by the teacher next to the assessment of the final presentation concert.

Module summary

This module is intended to teach students how to work with and instruct groups, preferably in the domain of professional education. Students will learn to work with group dynamics, and will be introduced to several approaches that help them frame their lessons to focus on the lessons aims. Using ensemble playing education as a case in point, specific lesson elements will be addressed, e.g., lesson aims, writing arrangements, mixing instruments from the classical and jazz & pop domain, ensemble playing, band leading and case studies.
