Competencies
See Competencies Matrix.
Aims
Understanding the fundamentals of electronic instruments and discovering the possibilities modern software gives us. developing the general skills necessary to use electronics in stage performance.
Relation to other modules
Related to the main subject.
Content
This module builds on the Computer and Music modules, but goes into great depth in using electronics (Effects, Samplers and Synthesizers) in a live setting, mainly focusing on Ableton Live as a platform for live performance.
After an introduction lesson exploring different ways of using electronics in a
live situation, we will alternate between blocks of theory lessons and blocks of putting the theory into practice in small groups. We will learn the basic skills of using Ableton Live and learn how Effects, Samplers and Synthesizers work. We will also learn how to prepare a set for playing live for various different applications.
During the year we will work towards doing a live electronics performance, which can range from playing covers in a small band setting with a (interactive) backing track, to live-sampling acoustic instruments creating lush soundscapes, to a fully electronic improvisational performance using only MIDI controllers.
