Aims
Mastering the elements described under Contents.
Relation to other modules
Related to the main subject course and band lessons.
Content
Students prepare an audition of five pieces, dealing with all aspects relevant to the audition: selecting pieces, writing new material (optional), arranging pieces, choosing other band members, rehearsals, organizing instrument set-up (where necessary), stage presentation. All skills, aims and contents of the various year 3 instrument subjects are relevant to the audition.
It is usually possible to combine auditions, with two or three students auditioning in one performance. Students interested in this can contact the educational office. The request will then be examined to determine whether it is organizationally feasible, especially if the appropriate committee members can be present at the same time.
The presentation part of the audition lasts roughly 20 minutes with one student, 25 minutes with two students and 30 minutes with more than two students.

Material & Tools
Depends on the main subject; see the main subject module description.
Student activity
Students independently organize all aspects relevant to performing the audition.
Examination and assessment
Mode(s) of assessment
Audition for a panel of three to five teachers. As a rule, two of the panel members are teachers of the student's main subject (if this cannot be arranged, two or fewer panel members are teachers of the student's main subject). Students prepare five pieces varying in terms of style and tempo, which allow them to showcase their individual skills and musical identity.
Criteria
Creativity, expression, improvisation, ensemble playing, interaction, harmonic possibilities, accompaniment, tonal balance, technique, sound, intonation, timing/tempo control, rhythm, reading skills, stylistic coherence, repertoire choice, set list, attitude, performance, preparation and (optional) arranging/composing.
Pass requirements
The individual panel members use, as a checklist, an overview of relevant criteria, based on which they rate the student overall, expressed in + (satisfactory), +/- (uncertain) or - (unsatisfactory). The chair collects these individual assessments. Students pass this module if they receive more pluses than minuses.
Examination procedure
The individual panel members use, as a checklist, an overview of relevant criteria, based on which they rate the student overall, expressed in + (satisfactory), +/- (uncertain) or - (unsatisfactory). The chair collects these individual assessments. Students pass this module if they receive more pluses than minuses.
The assessment report furthermore contains two major components: 1) a written summary of the panel's findings, and 2) separate ratings of five bundles of more or less related criteria.
The written report of the assessment is entered in the student's file.
