Content
This selective module will consist of three theory classes and four practical sessions, and will focus on live work.
Subjects comprise: Building up the equipment on stage and positioning the backline, microphones and monitors; equalizing and delay adjustments for the venue where you are mixing; connecting the cables both to and from the mixer; considering safety issues for both the musicians and the public; making a complete auditorium mix and a monitor mix; making recordings of the band that you are mixing.
During the practical sessions, you will twice make auditorium and monitor mixes of a Jazz & Pop band at a Black Hole concert. This will be under supervision. You will repeat this for the final two practical sessions but will then be working completely independently.
Once you have completed Live Sound 2, you will receive a request for your services as a sound engineer. This can be for internal or external concerts and often involves “student assistant” fees by way of payment.
