Learn basic fundamentals of electronic instruments, to be able to use them as a tool in the creative process.

This module is an entryway into the realm of electronic instruments, mainly Synthesizers and Samplers, for students that have no prior knowledge of the subject and find it intimidating to start. 

We will work with the free synthesiser plugin Vital to learn about some core electronic music concepts and the fundamental building blocks that make up most Synthesizers and Samplers. At the end of the course the students will be able to use electronic instruments autonomously.

Every lesson will consist of a demonstration and explanation of an important concept relating to electronic instruments, after which there is time for the students to apply the learned knowledge in the creation of some sounds. At the end of the lessons we will do a joint listening session sharing the sounds made during the lesson, learning from each other's explorations.

Students are required to own a personal laptop (Mac or Windows) and any DAW.

Assessment by the instructor at the end of the module.

Students should have mastered the elements described under Contents.

The student has completed this module if being awarded a 'pass'

Students are assessed at the end of the module. The assessments comprise evaluations of students' performance during the lessons and based on a final assignment.
