Electives for Jazz & Pop
What?
After your first year at ArtEZ Jazz & Pop Arnhem, you can choose from a wide selection of subjects to fill you elective space. This way, you can tailor make your educational journey. For students whose studies started before the academic year 2026-2027, the elective space comprises of 15 credits in year Two (16 for Voice students), 27 credits in year Three (21 for Voice), and 33 credits in year Four.
How?
How you fill your elective space has significant impact on the set of skills, knowledge and experience with which you will leave this studies to pursue your professional practice in music. Therefore, think it through carefully, consult teachers for advice, whether your main instrument teacher or teachers specialized in specific topics. In addition, you will have an interview with a study course supervisor, to go through your options and examine them.
Consider:
What are your interests? What are your strong points? Which areas are not yet strongly developed but where you feel it is important to improve them? What are your expectations of your future profession and – bearing this in mind – are there areas that you would like to develop more thoroughly?
Note:
- Your selection is only for the next academic year
- at least 6 credits (of which 3 credits must be obtained until the end of the 3rd year) must be allocated to both educational electives (E) and business electives (B).
- You may choose maximum 1 Individual Minor per year
- check the prerequisites for a course on its description page
- it is not possible to choose subjects which are already compulsory in your curriculum
- courses (also unfinished ones) already in your schedule (Osiris) should not be elected again
- Your selection can not be altered once submitted in Osiris
- You must complete and pass all the components you chose
In principle, once approved, a choice will also be implemented. But if a module is undersubscribed, consultations will then be held, to see how this can be solved. Typical solutions are: alternative mode of instruction, offering a similar elective or asking you to come up with an alternative from the list.
When?
Each year during the months of April & May, you will be making your selection from the Electives for the next academic year. Please go to Osiris to fill out your choices.
